Terrell Owens seeking professional sports contract, from a sport he once dominated

Back-to-back NBA All-Star Celebrity Game MVP is serious about a professional basketball career.

Former NFL wide receiver and current American Flag Football League athlete Terrell Owens is trying to get a break in Ice Cube’s newly found BIG3 street basketball league. BIG3 first overall pick Rashad McCants is one of the athletes Owens has been talking to about joining BIG 3, Owens told TMZ Sports.

“I guess I got to go to the higher, talk to the powers that be. I got to get Ice Cube’s number,” Owens told TMZ Sports. “I definitely can play and some of the guys that vouched for me, they definitely say that I can play.”

Owens won the 2008 and 2009 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game MVP scoring 18 points in his debut performance, leading his team to a 51-50 win, and scored 17 the second time around leading his team to win 60-57.

In Owens third and final appearance he was limited to 10 points, which was still his team’s high, but actor Michael Rappaport, current BIG3 host, was rewarded MVP that year. Rappaport only scored 4 points but was credited for shutting down 2-time MVP Owens on the other end to help his team win 41-37.

Seven years later, could Owens still be effective and this time around against professional basketball athletes?

“My football prowess speak for itself but if you asked around the BIG3 league, and even outside of that, ‘hey.’ The guys know I can hoop,” Owens said. “Let me come out there and display some of my skills. Let me play against some of the best.”

Shaquille O’Neal once said during the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game telecast that Owens was a player that could average around 10-14 points a game in the NBA.

Since Owens was snubbed for a second time this past winter into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he could possibly comeback.

But would he?

“Never say never,” Owens reponded to a tweet suggesting an NFL return.

A ticket to play professional basketball in BIG3 could possibly bring Owens back in the NFL.
