Minnesota Twins have two representatives in All-Star game 2017 in Miami.
Manager Paul Molitor broke the news to the team Saturday after receiving a call that starting pitcher Ervin Santana and third baseman Miguel Sano were selected to All-Star game.
“I want to say thank you, for all of you guys. I’ve been working really hard…and I [will] try to do the very best I can in there and represent my team,” Sano told his teammates down in the clubhouse.
Sano will be making his first All-Star game appearance. The 20-home run slugger will also participate in the 2017 Home Run Derby during All-Star break. Sano just hit a 502-foot homer Saturday, July 1, in game two of a doubleheader in Kansas City against the Royals, once again showcasing his power swing as he’s done throughout the 2017 season.
As for Santana, the pitcher who’s struck out 86 batters in 111.1 innings pitched winning 10 games for his club, Sano knew all along he’d be pitching among the best of the best.
“You know, I told him early in the year be ready. You’re going to be in the All-Star [game] because you’ll have a great season this year,” Sano said.
It looks like he was right.
