Could United Airlines be handling things any better?

When a plane is overbooked you get a law enforcement officer to make a “bloody” statement and forcefully drag the passenger off the plane.

Seems cruel? Well that’s what United Airlines did Sunday when passenger David Dao, 69, was aboard on a flight Sunday night in Chicago headed to Louisville, Kentucky. Since the airlines wanted to make room for four of their employees United Airlines apparently saw this as the best course of action. The sequence was captured online and this is what the company’s CEO said afterwards.

“I apologize for having to reaccommodate these customers,” Oscar Munoz said in a statement Monday, April 10. “Our team is moving with a sense of urgency to work with the authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened.”

Two days later and after 60,000 signatures were signed on a petition that wanted Munoz out of a job, Munoz responded. He will not resign and stated this incident is on him.

“It was a system failure,” Munoz said. “We have not provided our frontline supervisors and managers and individuals with the proper procedures that would allow them to use their common sense.”

The aviation security officer is on paid administrative duty pending an investigation. Victim Dao is in a hospital in Chicago getting treatment for his injuries.
